Know how to become an actor with some common steps for those who try to pursue a career path in acting.

There is no easy way to become an actor or actress. But these are the most common steps for those who try to pursue a career path in acting industry:

Acting
  • Get trained to be an actor : As such, there are no formal educational requirements for actors, but getting trained is a good place to start with. If you’re a student, following are a few options to try out –
    1. BFA or MFA in theater
    2. Attend summer programs
    3. Local acting classes are the best choice for most people.
  • Prepare documents : Casting directors often require you to submit headshot, acting resume, and demo reel before they get start with your roles.
  • Submit auditions and casting calls : At the initial stages, you’ll find words like – submit to audition and online casting platforms like Backstage.
  • Gain experience : As you audition and land more roles it will help you to improve your resume and reel.
  • Agent recognition : The experience you’ve built up will help you get signed by an acting agent and get representation. With an agent on your side, you’ll have access to bigger projects and significant roles.

Scripts & Rehearsal
  • Try out some casting calls : Try to check local newspapers, websites, TV, radios and elsewhere.
    1. Be aware of posts on various websites for casting calls for shows and other projects.
    2. Look for theater auditions and castings in theater magazines or local newspapers.
    3. Look for big auditions in major newspapers. It’s better to try your luck in large metropolitan cities with big entertainment industries.
  • Studying and rehearsing scripts : Actors have to spend hours memorizing lines, rehearsing stunts and brainstorming stage direction before performing in front of an audience or camera.
  • Try to learn more about roles : After accepting an acting job, it can be helpful to research the associated location or time period.
  • Look for a side job, if required: If you're starting out as an actor, you aren't making a full-time income yet. In that case, you might need to work on a side job to support yourself while you build up enough experience and grow your network large enough to ace your acting career. Actors usually take flexible and short-term jobs such as part time teaching, bartending and freelance writing to supplement their income.
